A LETTER TO OMOTOLANI

Image
To Omotolani, After all this time, I'm writing to you to let you know that I am aware of your unspoken concerns and that you are making an effort to maintain your composure. I am able to look behind your quiet and also the load, the regrets, the failures, and the hope. Unfortunately, I'm traveling because I'm looking for a reason. My focus may seem to be elsewhere, but I can see. After suffering comes development, and as the seed of insight grows, I am able to perceive the struggle against the odds and the yearning to get out of this quicksand.   I observe the daily race against time that society is forcing us to participate in while our race is left behind and pushed to emerge from an unfavorable soil. I observe every damaged soul running away from the source of inner peace.    I'm writing to let you know that I've embarrassed manhood by crying for love for the first time and suffering heartbreak as all the memories I've made are drowned to prevent ag...

Juice Wrld: The man The myth and The legend

The loss of a loved one cannot be avoided, in my opinion. The oddest of all feelings, loss strikes us on a deep level while being pushed upon us from the outside. Even though grieving is unavoidable and death is predestined, we can ultimately choose how we handle the passing of a loved one while we are still living. A life without loss is a life without love, so that love is worth it.   Early in December of 2019 Juice Wrld boarded a private plane for what would be his final flight before he passed away. For a man who celebrated life in and out of wax, it was a shattering conclusion. I distinctly recall the first time I heard Lucid Dreams' most well-known song. This particular song captures the moment when a bre...

Unsung heroes: influential women of 2020

Image
2020 gave us an abundance of stories of powerful and inspirational women. In the US, Vice-President elect Kamala Harris made history when she became the first female vice president, the first African American vice president and the first Asian vice president. The passing of Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg brought to the forefront of our minds everything she had achieved for women’s rights throughout her career. But not every woman who was influential during 2020 found themselves on the front of magazines. Here are some inspiring women who may or may not have made it onto your radar this year. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya During the 2020 Belarusian election, activist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya stepped in at the last minute to run against the authoritarian president Alexander Lukashenko.
